Another stunning Bertossi Brides design from Anne’s 1997 collection on the left, as you can see Anne loved to create simple elegant syles even back then. The lace sleeves and neckline are very in Vogue today, Anne loves to show off her beautiful laces in timeless designs.

You just can’t beat the clean lines of the boat neckline in this 1998 Bertossi Brides gown on the right, a well fitted, beautifully cut sheath gown made up in French lace is always a winner!

Simply Stunning That is a perfect description of this beautiful gown from Anne’s Bertossi Brides collection back in 1996. The clean lines in the neckline and the simple, fitted short sleeves could easily be used in one of Anne’s designs today.

What confirms the date in this image are the flowers, the huge trailing flowers that were very fashionable today have been replaced with small a small simple posey for todays bride.

This stunning image is one of the first gowns Anne made for her much loved ‘Bertossi Brides’ collection back in 1992, it is a perfect example of timeless design. It is essential for Anne to create beautiful wedding gowns that you can look back on in years to come and still be proud of.

‘Simple, classic, elegant designs made from only the best silks and European laces and cut perfectly’ this is Anne’s design ethic.

It is great to have hints of today’s fashion in your gown but if you go too far you will end up with a very dated gown. Anne loves to mix her classic designs with a little bit of 2012, using modern laces from the UK to add to elegant styles or simple design features that don’t overtake the look of the gown.

Anne’s top tip is to imagine looking back at your wedding pictures with your grand children in years to come, we know from our mothers gowns the fashionable bridal styles during the 80′s and early 90′s are not so great now, but if we look back to our grandmothers and great grandmother, the classic styles of the 20′s through to the 50′s are still considered amazing even today!

How to wear a Fascinator

The fascinator is a fantastic accessory for your wedding today.
With all the beautiful lace gowns in fashion at the moment and a strong ‘vintage’ feel with all the high end designers, a fascinator is just perfect.

The trick is to find a fascinator that suits you, some are very large with feathers and sparkle, you really need to feel comfortable and confident to wear these and I find often it is the taller brides to suit these. As with anything for your bridal look keep it in proportion to your size, if you are more petite then generally more delicate accessories will look better.

The look we have here is called the Petals the great thing about this fascinator is that is sits flat on your head, more of a 20′s style.
You wear it near the front or your head with a tulle veil over your eyes, we make the tulle veil detachable so you can take this off later in the evening and are still left with the lovely petals. This is definitely something to think about as it would get very annoying to have the veil over your eyes the whole day!

For some of our brides we are finding they are wearing a veil for the ceremony and some photos, then are changing into a fascinator for later, they have the best of both worlds! What ever you go for just make sure you feel comfortable and check that it suits the style of gown that you have picked.

Beach Weddings

With our stunning climate here in Queensland a beach wedding is always a fantastic venue for your special day, why not make the most of our beautiful coastline and dramatic sunsets.

It is important however to pick the perfect gown that works for this setting.

First of all the fabric is all important, you should look for natural fabrics such as silk satin or silk chiffon that you will feel comfortable in even if it’s a hot humid day.
If you are in a ultra structured, polyester blend gown on a 30 degree day you really won’t enjoy yourself! There is nothing more stunning than the flow of silk in the breeze, try to find a gown that moves with you in a natural way, rather than one that you are fighting with all day to make look good or that is hard to walk in.

Secondly, if you are looking for laces or embellishments try and pick gowns that again have that natural feel, some laces are very stiff and highly crystaled and can look too plastic and shiney for an outside wedding. However some of the amazing laces from Europe that we have at Paddington Weddings have a delicate, organic feel that is more appropriate for your venue but just as stunning.

Thirdly, don’t feel that just because you are having a beach wedding it has to be a very casual theme. I love the combination of the beach and natural setting but with a formal feel, elegant restaurants and ultra chic marquee’s for your reception venue work well with the rustic charm of the outdoor ceremony!

Finally, go with your personality. The great thing these days is that there are no rules, only ideas to give you inspiration to pick the perfect wedding to suit you and your fiance’s dream. Have fun!!!

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue…..

So we’ve all heard about this tradition, and it can be quite fun for the brides. Some of us have even probably followed the custom ourselves. But where did it come from and why do we follow it so traditionally?

Something Old: This idea is about continuity of the brides past life.

Suggestions: Often this can be symbolized by small pieces of fabric taken from a family heirloom such as a wedding dress that has been passed down, or perhaps some jewelry.

Something New: The token represents new optimism into her marriage and her new life.

Suggestions: This can be anything new but often the mother of the bride will give the bride a small gift, a small horseshoe can also be a token of something new as it also brings good luck.

Something Borrowed: The borrowed token is usually given to the bride from a happily married family member, or close family friend and is meant to remind the bride that she has friends and family she can depend on always.

Suggestions:

Something Blue: Brides in ancient Rome wore blue to symbolize modesty, love and fidelity and the Virgin Mary has long been represented by the colour blue.

Suggestions: This is the most creative token of the tradition and can often be represented by a small blue button or ribbon sewn into the dress. Other ideas can be jewelry (blue stones), the garter or some brides have been known to wear blue shoes of their wedding day to symbolise this tradition.

It often brings an element of fun for the bride and can often consist of sentimental values including pieces of family heirlooms. The tradition has been dated back to the early Victorian times and certain values are placed on each item, the whole concept is meant to bring good luck to the bride and her happy marriage.

I think this tradition will last for many more weddings to come as it’s fun for the bride and those close to her to be a part of the brides special day, and brings such sentimental elements of family into the day also.

When you use an amazing lace like this you must keep the style simple, go for sleek elegant lines so it is all the the fabric.

When you accessorise a full lace dress, less is more. It is like you are wearing your accessories when you put on a beautiful lace gown so a simple veil or vintage fascinator is often all it needs!

Set a realistic budget for your photography and also remember that your photo’s will be the visual memories of your big day, and if you sacrifice too much with this budget you may end up regretting your decision to skim on this budget.
That is not to say that you should spend more than you are comfortable with, just shop around for this one. The best referral is always word of mouth, so if a friend of a friend had an amazing photographer for their wedding check out their photo’s and get their contact details for your list of ‘maybe’s’.
Facebook and other image sharing social media sites are a good place to find photographers you like and contact the photographer directly for a quote.
Photographers are artists, and some like to get very creative, whereas others are specifically wedding photographers and like to take more traditional photo’s. Therefore, it is important that you let the photographer know what you do and don’t like about posing for your photo’s. Perhaps your hubby-to-be never seems to have a good side when it comes to having his picture taken, so getting him to do things he’s more comfortable with may be a better option than striking a frozen pose.
